2016 and moving forwards
So, I'm a father.
My beautiful baby boy was born on the morning of the 31st of December, which means that his birthdays will always have fireworks.
We weren't expecting him for another two weeks, but now that he's here I'm so glad he decided to join us. I'm writing this as he's nursing.
I should be more nervous than I am. I'm too excited, though.
So, 2016 closed on the highest note possible for me on a personal level. Writing-wise? Eh... not so bad either.
So I wanted to use 2016 as the year to see if I could motivate myself to pursuing this. I fell way short of my goal of using writing prompts, and yet I don't feel discouraged. I got over my fear and submitted stories to three quarters of the WoF, three very different stories. I delved into different topics and reaffirmed the type of stuff I want to write. I did NaNoWriMo (so-so). What I feel was most important is that I think I improved from start to finish.
I like writing more now than when I started, which I think is a good sign.
So, although I'll be kind of busy for the next few months until we fall into a rhythm, I'm still gonna go for it.
So projects for 2017:
Everyone Goes to Hell - currently ~2k short of where it needs to end, gotta finish strong and submit to Q1 of WoF
The Sayyonad Cycle (tentative title) - will focus on this fantasy book. The synopsis is done, just have to write the darn thing. Currently ~30k words in.
Bloodlines - I need to rework this from the ground up to fit into my Monster World mythology, plus change to first person POV. Also more blood. Blood. Blood. I want this vampire book to actually be scary, right now it's kind of toothless. It's more of a revenge story, which is still the main focus, but making the backstory fit into the same universe as Everyone Goes to Hell will make it a tighter narrative.
Those are the main projects, which I will enjoy finding time to focus on. Oh, and a local writing group.
At least, that's the plan...
- chair!
