Ciro Tries To Be A Writer

Finally!

So I took a break from short story writing to dedicate to the fantasy novel I've gutted and am currently rebuilding. This was the story I submitted to TOR about 8 years ago which was laughably bad (but I though it was the bomb, of course).

I managed to eke out just 2k for it yesterday, not a bad return, considering I had to reread the previous 12k to get back into the flow, and the appendix where I have my updated notes before that.

I don't know if I can keep doing it this way, taking extended breaks from the big projects to do small ones, but I have a feeling that this is actually the way that I can keep my sanity and things moving along.

When an idea gets lodged into my head, I find I have to put it down on paper before I can get it out, so I foresee plenty of interruptions to the big projects.

Of course, after finishing the "boyfriend from hell" story, I couldn't help but see how it might fit into an overarching mythology for a 'monster world' alternate reality. I think I could actually tie the three stories into one universe (the vampire, the frankenzombie and the possession story ) with the priest & soldier combo featuring as background actors in the vampire and frankenzombie before having a bigger part in the possession one.

I'm a big fan of authors having winks at their audience by including characters from other stories pop up in the one you're reading, particularly if it hints toward a big, world-spanning reveal. I'm not saying that's what I'm going to shoot for, as each of those stories is pretty self contained in my mind, but I would love to do something like that.

In the meantime, I'm going to try to spin out 2-3k more words for the fantasy story, as I've got it fresh in my mind.

I find that I'm playing a bit fast and loose with the chronology of it, though. I have to sit down and think about people's ages and when things might've happened, but I'm afraid that'll bog me down right now and throw off my inspiration. I most definitely need an editor, so I've been looking at LA writing group organizations, see if any sound like they could be a good fit.

For now, though, I feel the need to write so...
